Do those who are thinking about adoption know that your child might resent you?
I believe that ANY parent runs the risk that their child might resent them for something. Adoption is never an easy choice and there are "risks" of all kinds. The risk of resentment is one of them. I am an adoptive Mother and there is a risk that our son will resent us for adopting him, and that he will resent his Birth-Parents for choosing an adoption plan for him. There is a possibility that if they had kept him, he would have grow to resent them for keeping him later in life. My hope is that he will know in his heart that my husband and I, along with his Birth-Parents did what all 4 of us believed was best for him and that he will love all of us for our decision. There is never an easy choice when a parent is unable to parent a child, or even considering if they are able to parent. We can only trust in our decision and pray that the child is understanding of the decision that was made and is happy with the life that he or she has.
