Questions about wild camping in the UK?
It is not "legal" to just set up camp anywhere in the UK .Most farmers will allow campers to camp on their land and may not charge anything but will get annoyed if you just set up camp in one of their fields. Similarly most large unspoilt areas in the country are National Parks and do not allow random camping in the park you can camp at specified sites but there is a charge. Just about every other area of land is either owned by local councils, county councils or privately. The councils do not permit random camping in any areas except official sites. The dangers of camping in unauthorised places could be as little as being thrown of the land or the farmer may plough your camp into the ground. In Parks rangers may confiscate equipment and fine you for illegal camping. As for water use a stream river or spring and purification tablets or if you are fairly high up and there is not a lot of intense farming it would probably be safe to drink. Of course you could probably camp in national parks and on private land for years without getting caught but why risk it
